Infinity suspends agents while tools do the waiting

Save state instead of keeping a waiting process

On 23 October 2026, AWS introduced Infinity, an early research release in the Hydro project. The runtime saves a conversation, suspends the agent during a tool call and resumes it when the result arrives.

Waiting becomes an event

An agent may wait for compilation, a network response or human approval. Keeping every wait as an active process is not the only way to organize this work. Resuming from stored state could reduce resources held between actions.

For a team, an interesting scenario would involve long tasks with responses arriving out of order. It should verify that each result reaches the correct conversation and that resumption does not repeat an action already completed, especially one with external effects.

Separate concurrency from compute capacity

Many suspended agents do not represent the same number of simultaneous inferences. Model throughput, tools and storage still need separate sizing. Before adoption, restarts, duplicate results and missing events need testing. Research status provides neither a production guarantee nor a measured gain for a particular infrastructure.
