Generate interfaces from definitions

On 28 September 2026, Cloudflare introduced Forge, an open and extensible generator. It already produced output for the cf CLI; wider use for SDKs and documentation was still planned.

Make a change’s consequences visible

An API defines how software calls another service. Teams often maintain the service, its client library and documentation examples in parallel. If these diverge, users may follow instructions that look valid but cannot run with their installed version.

Generation integrated into development can make those differences reviewable before publication. A parameter change should connect to its effect in client code and help text. For agents using the interfaces, a consistent contract can also reduce ambiguity when calling tools.

Generation does not prove behaviour

A generator can faithfully propagate an incorrect definition. Checks against the real service, executable examples and compatibility review remain necessary. For a small API, adoption cost should be weighed against the actual need to maintain multiple outputs.
