PostgreSQL 19 beta 2: replaying partition maintenance
Put a fix in context
On 16 July 2026, PostgreSQL 19 beta 2 fixed a vacuumdb --analyze-in-stages regression involving partitioned tables. This remains a beta to examine outside production.
Test supporting operations too
When teams evaluate a database, reads and writes naturally attract attention. We recommend also including the maintenance commands surrounding those workloads. An environment can answer ordinary queries correctly and still encounter a problem during a less frequent task.
For telemetry history divided into partitions, prepare data with full periods, an empty period and uneven volumes. Compare messages, elapsed time and final state with the baseline. Define the expected outcome before running the trial.
Keep a reduced case
If an anomaly appears, gradually reducing schema and data helps isolate its trigger. We would preserve the exact command and output alongside the report. This makes migration qualification more useful than a simple list of announced features.
