Godot 4.6.2: physics needs maintenance too

A quiet update

In our retrospective April review, Godot 4.6.2, released on April 1, 2026, stands out for a Jolt fix: gravity handling was revised to prevent energy gains during elastic collisions. Official announcement.

When the engine changes the outcome

A bouncing ball or a hanging object makes a useful indicator: its behavior depends on engine rules as well as game scripts. For developers, this kind of change is a reason to replay a small reference scene before continuing to balance a game. The expected trajectory, an object coming to rest and a stable stack offer more useful observations than a general impression of smoothness.

Check the scene and the export

The relevance primarily concerns projects that actually use Jolt and the affected interactions. A physics correction does not establish a higher frame rate. Keeping the previous project, comparing the same scene and trying the target export helps distinguish a simulation change from an issue specific to hardware or content.
